Provide advice, guidance, and encouragement to new and existing growers

Advocate for and represent members interests with relevant industry stakeholders and organisations; promote and advance the reputation and value of Australian lavender products in both domestic and international markets
Legacy
Ensure the collection, conservation and preservation of the genus Lavandula in Australia
Connect
Facilitate networking opportunities for growers with industry suppliers and stakeholders by resourcing online forums, face-to-face events and coordinating Area Liaison Representatives (ALRs) who help connect local grower communities;
Communicate
Hold the collection of Australian lavender industry archival material; regular dissemination of domestic and international lavender news; collaboration with R&D partners to increase quality of growing information
Governance
TALGA is a registered body with ASIC and an incorporated body with Consumer Affairs Victoria. The registered office for TALGA is 310 Macarthur Street, Ballarat, VIC. 3350. The Association is governed by an elected committee taken from the membership, comprising of five office bearers and two ordinary members who operate the Association in accordance with the Model Rules. TALGA has adopted the Model Rules for an Incorporated Association as set out by Consumer Affairs Victoria.
Annual General Meetings
TALGA holds an annual general meeting (AGM) once a year that all members are invited to attend. The purpose of the AGM is to give members a report on the Association’s activities and finances for the previous year, to allow time for members to ask questions, and to discuss priority issues for members.
All members are invited to the next AGM 2025 of The Australian Lavender Growers’ Association Inc (TALGA). Participating in the meeting will give you the opportunity to learn more about TALGA’s current operations, progress over the last twelve months, and financial situation.

Where We Came From – 30 Years Of TALGA
In 2025 we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of The Australian Lavender Growers Association!
The origins of TALGA date back to 1985, following the public opening of Yuulong Lavender Estate in Victoria. The enthusiastic public response led to the collection of contact information from over 400 interested individuals across Australia. A decade later, in June 1995, a steering committee convened at Yuulong to formally establish the Australian Lavender Growers Association. The Constitution was modelled on Victoria’s Associations Incorporation Act, and the group defined its mission, vision, and membership structure, culminating in its official launch at the Bombala Lavender Conference in September 1995.

The Constitution was modelled on Victoria’s Associations Incorporation Act, and the group defined its mission, vision, and membership structure, culminating in its official launch at the Bombala Lavender Conference in September 1995.
The first Annual General Meeting took place in December 1995 at Yuulong and marked the beginning of a structured, member-led organization. Attended by 127 participants and the Victorian Minister for Agriculture, the AGM also saw the creation of a Board and the allocation of operational responsibilities. TALGA quickly gained momentum with the first-ever International Lavender Conference held in Ballarat in 1996, attracting nearly 200 delegates and setting the tone for annual conferences across the country. Regional groups like the Far South West Lavender Growers’ Group, the Central West Vic Group and the South East/East Vic Group were formed under the TALGA body thereby strengthening community engagement.
Leadership transitioned over the years, guiding TALGA through new stages of development. Under successive presidents, international speakers were featured, and discussions expanded to technical topics such as distillation, cultivation, and marketing. By the early 2000s, membership had grown substantially, and the organisation published a quarterly newsletter called The Goode Oil. In 2003 this evolved into The Lavender Journal. The Lavender Journal is now a larger publication and published post conference. The Association celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2005, “The Pursuit of Excellence” reflecting on its milestones and growth. The 20th anniversary was celebrated in Ballarat “Twenty Years and Growing” and marked the publication of Rosemary Holmes’ book “TALGA’s” First Twenty Years”, featuring members’ lavender farms across Australia. Throughout the intervening years TALGA continues to hold well-attended conferences annually. This year TALGA30 will “Celebrate the past: Embrace the future” at RACV Goldfields Resort, Creswick, Vic in October 2025.
TALGA's scope has broadened to include agritourism, product accreditation, and culinary lavender. Many member farms now host visitors, offering experiences like lavender-themed foods and tearooms. The Olfactory Oil Competition was introduced to benchmark essential oils against international standards. TALGA remains an active hub for commercial growers, distillers, and serious enthusiasts, fostering innovation and collaboration across the lavender industry.
